FE4 Chapter 6 - Light Inheritors Crop Ribaut

Ribaut as it appears in Chapter 6.

Ribaut (Rivough in some fan translations) is a location featured in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and mentioned in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. It is found in the country of Isaach, on the continent of Jugdral.

Profile[]

A southeastern territory bordering the sea, Ribaut houses the southernmost castle of Isaach and keeps watch over the Aed Desert. Situated at the end of a mountain range and at the edge of a desert, it is both vulnerable to attack and located at an important chokepoint between Isaach and the rest of Jugdral.

Though the area is governed by the Kingdom of Isaach, it is described as "barbaric" and the people there do not necessarily answer to Isaach's royal family. Throughout Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776, Ribault is described as a fallen kingdom. There may even be slave traders operating there.

In Thracia 776, Galzus is revealed to be Ribaut's lost prince. When introduced, he thirsts for revenge for his kingdom's destruction, yet abandons this idea after Leif's army seizes Munster Castle. As neither Galzus nor his daughter, Mareeta, explicitly return to Ribaut after the events of the game, it is unclear who lives in its castle.

History[]

According to Ayra, sometime before the start of Genealogy of the Holy War, Ribaut decided to invade and massacre citizens of Grannvale living at Dahna, located in the Aed Desert. The people of Grannvale were outraged, and public opinion there strongly favored war with King Mananan and his Kingdom of Isaach. Mananan learned of the misinformation surrounding his kingdom's involvement in the massacre, and swiftly led his troops to bring ruin to the "barbarians" of Ribaut. Afterwards, he arranged a meeting with Grannvale's Prince Kurth in an attempt to explain what had happened. Unfortunately, the Grannvaleian Dukes Reptor and Lombard killed both Mananan (outraging Isaach) and Kurth, pinning the blame for the prince's death on Duke Byron. This caused Prince Mariccle of Isaach to lead his remaining troops into battle against Grannvale's main force in order to avenge his father's death, eventually setting the stage for the war between Isaach and Grannvale.
