Profile[]
Rodrigue is the Duke of Fraldarius and was the former right-hand to King Lambert before his death. In his youth, he was close childhood friends with the King as well as Matthias, having attended the Officers Academy together with them. After graduating, Rodrigue was an important member of Lambert's forces during the military campaign in Sreng. Later, he would be blessed with two sons Glenn and Felix. When Gunnar Galatea's daughter Ingrid was born, she was immediately betrothed to Glenn, who was two years her senior.
In the Imperial Year 1176, Glenn was killed during the Tragedy of Duscur alongside his old friend Lambert and many others. Rodrigue was left to mourn the loss of his son and chose to glorify his death, believing that Glenn had chosen to die for his king and thus, should be honored for it. Felix, who idolized Glenn, disagreed and hated Rodrigue's response, straining their relationship.
The death of Lambert and Glenn weighed heavily on him for years. As a means to absolve his own guilt, Rodrigue vowed to protect and assist Lambert's son Dimitri, the sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur. He also began to guide Felix into eventually succeeding him as Duke of Fraldarius despite Felix's continued disdain for his father.

Rodrigue, as well as Gilbert and Dedue, fight alongside Dimitri during the three-way battle against the Adrestian Empire and the Alliance Army, where he meets his fate. The following night, Dimitri reunites with Byleth and mourns his comrades' deaths, and says that Byleth's response reminds him of Rodrigue. The following month, should he be recruited, Felix grieves over his father's death. Towards the end of the route, Felix mentions he intends to return to former Faerghus territory to pay respects to Rodrigue and put flowers on his grave.

Following Dimitri's self-exile, Rodrigue is one of the few nobles who continue to support the true king. This prompts Cornelia to send troops to crush the "rebellious" nobles, and Rodrigue is barely able to get by. Upon hearing that Dimitri has re-emerged and is on the move, he steals Areadbhar from one of Cornelia's lackeys and sends a letter to him, telling him to meet at Ailell, as it was halfway between Garreg Mach and Fraldarius territory, where he could provide them with soldiers. Upon arriving, they are ambushed by soldiers from House Rowe, led by Gwendal. They are able to rout the enemy, where Rodrigue is slightly disturbed by Dimitri's change in personality, but hands him Areadbhar. He then states that he wishes to fight by his side, much to Felix's surprise as there would be no one to oversee their territory. Rodrigue informs him that he had anticipated this, and gave it to his younger brother.
After securing the Great Bridge of Myrddin, Rodrigue finds a Kingdom general and a young maiden requesting to join the army. He asks the two what is going on, and the general responds that the maiden wants to join. Rodrigue refuses her offer, finding her too young, and tells the general to return her to her parents. The maiden states that she has no family, and that she wants revenge on the one who killed her big brother. Dimitri then comes in and states that she can do whatever she pleases, so she ends up joining the army.
Following the battle of Gronder Field, the maiden arrives onto the battlefield, much to Rodrigue's surprise, and attacks Dimitri after blaming him for the death of her brother. Dimitri feels as if he should deserve to die, but Rodrigue, seeing his king in danger, leaps in the way and takes the fatal blow, allowing Byleth to cut the maiden down. This act of self-sacrifice reawakens Dimitri's consciousness, who believes that he deserved to die for what he had done. Rodrigue absolves him of his guilt, stating that he must no longer be shackled to the past and that he resembles his late father Lambert before dying of his wound.
He is later buried at Garreg Mach Monastery, although temporarily as Ingrid stated that there was no time for a proper burial. It's suggested that he was returned to Fraldarius territory once the war was over and given a proper burial there. Though Felix mourns his father's death, he tells Byleth that if Rodrigue had seen how much Dimitri had done, he would have been proud of him.

Rodrigue remains in Arianrhod with Cornelia. Upon learning that Imperial forces are headed their way, he expresses worry as he had sent troops to assist Dimitri in defending the kingdom, and wonders why the Imperial Army is coming to them. Cornelia, who is actually a member of Those Who Slither in the Dark, knows the true reason but refuses to disclose it to him, stating that her "children" will be ready to greet the attackers.
He falls in battle defending the city, alongside Felix if he was not recruited. If Felix is still alive when he is defeated, he vows to fight in his father's stead. If Felix falls first, then Rodrigue will swear to avenge him. If Felix was recruited into the Black Eagle Strike Force and battles him, Rodrigue shows disgust at his son's actions and vows to kill him to rectify his failure.
Warriors: Three Hopes[]
Rodrigue arrives at Garreg Mach Monastery, and informs Dimitri's that his uncle Rufus has seized control of Fhirdiad and is orchestrating a purge of House Fraldarius under the pretense of trying to stop them from installing Dimitri as a puppet.
After the succession crisis is resolved, Rodrigue resigns from his post as Duke Fraldarius in order to act as a target for the people's ire, appoints Felix as his successor, and agrees to work with Dedue to make repartitions to Duscur.
Personality[]
As the former right-hand man to King Lambert, Rodrigue is a veteran knight providing wise council to the young prince Dimitri. He provides patient understanding of Dimitri's mindset, even while he is consumed by his vengeance, directing the prince's desires in a productive manner that benefits the greater whole of Fódlan, while still allowing him to achieve his goals. Ultimately, Rodrigue is loyal to his former liege and is willing to sacrifice himself to protect Lambert's son without hesitation or regret. When he does so in Azure Moon, he absolves Dimitri of guilt to ensure that Lambert's legacy would live on.
Despite this, Rodrigue thinks little of himself and is plagued by his own regrets for not being by Lambert's side during the Tragedy of Duscur. Part of his motivations to aid Dimitri was penance for his absence. Prior to this event, Rodrigue was a close family man to his two sons, expressing pride in his eldest son Glenn for becoming a stellar knight at a young age. His death during the Tragedy gave him more regrets over not being there and was mortified that he died. Possibly to cope with the loss of Glenn, Rodrigue often glorified his death. Felix, who idolized Glenn, took this as a slight against his brother and felt that he never cared for Glenn at all. While frustrated by Felix's indignation, he ultimately understands Felix's frustrations towards his detached reaction. No matter how brusque Felix responded to him, Rodrigue tried to find time to speak to his son and in Three Hopes, he has more serious talks with Felix, man-to-man, eventually reconciling with his son.

Etymology[]
Rodrigue is a French name meaning "famous power/ruler." It originated from the ancient Germanic Hrodric and came to the French language through the Latin Rodericus. The name Achille likely refers to the Greek Hero Achilles who fought in the Trojan War.
Fraldarius may be an attempt to convert Fleur-de-lis, a French symbol associated with royalty, into a surname, as Fraldarius is written as "Furarudariusu" in Japanese, and Fleur-de-lis is "Furuuru do risu".
Trivia[]
- Rodrigue shares his voice actor Jake Eberle with Haar and Caineghis in Heroes.
- In a survey conducted by Famitsu Magazine, Rodrigue placed 17th for males and 33rd overall with 104 votes in the character popularity poll for Three Houses.
- Oddly enough, during the Ambush at Ailell, Rodrigue has Sword Prowess Lv 3, although he doesn't wield any sword during the battle or in any battle to begin with. Plus such weapon isn't required to master in order to become a Holy Knight, questioning the meaning of the ability even more.
- While not confirmed, it might be because if talked with Byleth, Rodrigue will give them the Sword of Moralta.
- The reason why Byleth didn't use the Divine Pulse to save Rodrigue in Azure Moon is currently unknown. Some possible reasons may be that they had used up all the Pulse's charges at that point or they knew that his sacrifice would return Dimitri to his senses.
- Ironically, despite calling himself the 'king's shield' during Crimson Flower, Rodrigue won't have a shield equipped, unlike in Azure Moon.
- Rodrigue and Volkhard can be considered opposites.
- While Rodrigue is fought only in Crimson Flower, Volkhard is fought only in Azure Moon.
- Rodrigue follows the Kingdom, while Volkhard follows the Empire.
- Rodrigue serve as the paternal figure of the Kingdom's heir, while Volkhard serve as the paternal figure of the Empire's heir, although his relationship with her is now bitter. Both sheltered them after tragedies affecting their respective countries.
- Rodrigue is a Holy Knight, while Volkhard is a Dark Knight.
- Rodrigue is fought during the defense of a fort, while Volkhard is fought during the assault on a city.
- Rodrigue is deeply loyal to the Kingdom, while Volkhard will ultimately betray the Empire.
- In Three Hopes, Rodrigue is the only male character who can learn Essence of Light, marking him as the opposite of Petra, who is the only female character who can learn Essence of Wind.
- In Three Hopes, Rodrigue is the fourth character in Fire Emblem series who can leave the roster after they are recruited if certain conditions are not met. He will end up getting killed by Byleth if they and Jeralt are not recruited. The first three examples are Jill in Path of Radiance, Zihark in Radiant Dawn and Kaze in Fates.
- Rodrigue holds the dubious honor of leaving the army the most out of all units in Three Hopes, being absent in Chapters 7, 10, and 12 onwards for good if Byleth and Jeralt are not recruited.
