Cipher Virion Artwork2

Virion in a luscious valley as depicted by Kotaro Yamada for Fire Emblem 0 (Cipher).

Rosanne is a location in Fire Emblem Awakening. It is a small dukedom on the continent of Valm known for its fertile lands.

Profile[]

It is not known if Rosanne is an independent nation or a part of unnamed kingdom, as a duke is traditionally a rank of office below a monarch. Like the other political bodies of Valm, the exact location of Rosanne is unknown, though the events of Cherche's backstory imply that it is near Wyvern Valley. This would mean that Rosanne is centrally located on Valm from a latitudinal perspective. Furthermore, it is likely found on the eastern half of the continent, bordered by mountains and a river to the west. Within the dukedom are smaller domains who all vow fealty to House Virion.

Needlework is a traditional pastime in Rosanne, notably for women. One tradition involves the gifting of handkerchiefs between women, signifying the desire to be the best of friends, though handkerchiefs make a good gift between friends of any gender. Flowers and fragrances are of cultural importance as well, and their significance varies between domains with each one having an identifiable perfume. Based on Cherche and Stahl's supports, there seems to be literature on the culture of Rosanne.

Romantically, at least in Cherche's village, inviting someone on a trip to collect firewood is a way of suggesting that one wishes to ignite the flames of passion in their heart. If one intends marriage with another, they may propose with a ring.

Story[]

Before the events of the game, Rosanne was ruled by Duke Virion, yet Walhart conquered it and incorporated into the Valmese Empire. Upon defeat, Virion was given the choice to surrender, die, or flee. He decided to flee, escaping to Ylisse and living a life of overt disguise. To prevent more deaths, he hoped to form an alliance with the Halidom of Ylisse, which he achieves formally in the second half of Awakening with the help of Cherche. In the end of the story, after Walhart's defeat by Chrom and the Shepherds resulting in the fall of the Valmese Empire, Virion returns to Rosanne alongside his wife of choice to resume the role of governance. His people branded him as a coward, but his wife's popularity and efforts to reconstruct the lands won the populace's favour.

Notable people from Rosanne[]

  • Cherche - A vassal of House Virion who thinks her wyvern is adorable.

Etymology[]

Rosanne is an English name meaning 'graceful rose', a composite of the names Rose and Anne.
