Profile[edit | edit source]
The Ruffian was a nameless thug who was an affiliate or member of Eremiya’s assassins. Legion sent Ruffian to attack Altean villages and distract the Altean knights, while the main force of the assassins went after Marth. A crook with a distinctive laugh, the scoundrel was defeated by the knights of Altea, however one of the rookie knights pondered if the criminal was part of a larger force.
A character who blurs the line between character and generic unit, the Ruffian is notable for having no name, yet having a unique battle and death quote.

Notes[edit | edit source]
- Ruffian is the first Barbarian to function as both a boss unit and a character of any kind.
- Despite having battle dialogue, the Ruffian has no mini portrait and instead uses the class icon.
- The ruffian is the only boss in the DS games to have his portrait re-used, in particular his portrait is used by several thugs in both Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem.
- In Shadow Dragon, his portrait appears in Prologue IV and Knorda Market.
- In New Mystery of the Emblem, the ruffian portrait appears in The Grustian Expedition and Joy and Sorrow , as well as in the Archanea saga episodes The Red Dragon Knight, Thieves' Gang of Justice, and The Beginning.
