m (While Spear Saint is probably also accurate (these things tend to be able to be translated several ways), I think we need to emphasize why we consider it Sentinel and not Halberdier or a new class entirely.)

“Legendary lancers who stride battlefields with calm and surety.”
—Class Description

The Sentinel (referred to as Holy Lancer in the Japanese version and Lancer in PAL region game versions) is a promoted Lance using class in the Fire Emblem series. It is the highest class tier of the lance-wielding class tree it appears in.

In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Sentinels are considered to be the most skilled lance-wielding class. They are the promoted form of a Halberdier, which in turn is the promoted form of the Soldier class. The Sentinel class possesses the Mastery skill known as Impale, which does 4x damage.

Sentinels are very strong units. With all-around high stats, they can take, dodge (or block, since Sentinels use shields for their dodge animations), and give many blows and much damage. They are more preferable to Marshalls, since they are easier to train in all class forms, though they can only use lances while Marshalls can use all melee weapons (bows are indirect attack weapons, and therefore do not count).

In PAL versions of Radiant Dawn, Sentinels were the subject of a minor scripting error. While Sentinels are referred to as "Lancers" throughout the game, the class is still referred to as "Sentinel" in the Impale skill's description.

In Fire Emblem Fates, the class is called Spear Master (槍聖 Sōsei, Holy Lancer in the Japanese version) and is the promotion of the Spear Fighter, the game's version of the Soldier, and thus is equivalent to the Halberdier class in other games.
