“Improves critical hit rate.”
—In-game description, The Sacred Stones

Shamshir is a potent Sword that first appears in Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. First seen as the weapon of choice wielded by Marisa, this sword is one that, like the Wo Dao, has a very large Critical Hit rate, and can only be wielded by sword-based classes like Myrmidons, Swordmasters, Assassins and even Eirika. Coupled with its lightweight nature, the Shamshir blade grants its wielder the potential to perform not just one, but two critical attacks in any given battle - Strengths that are only offset by the weapon's low Might and Durability.

Etymology[]

The shamshir was a type of scimitar that was wielded by Persian warriors during the period between the 16th and the 18th centuries, where a specially contrived variant of the sword, the Shamshir-e Zomorrodnegar, is lauded as one that is legendary in Persian mythology. Shamshir is also a Persian word that roughly means "paw-claws", reflecting its curved blade.

Trivia[]

  • Oddly, the shamshir blade is one that closely resembles the mameluke sword, a weapon that is specially crafted and issued to United States Marine Corps Commissioned Officers.
  • Bonewalkers and Wights are able to use Shamshirs.
