The Siegfried (ジークフリート Jīkufurīto) is a unique Sword from Fire Emblem Fates. The personal sword of Xander, the Siegfried is a strong weapon that increases the Dodge and Defense of its wielder when armed.
Profile
Siegfried was one of five weapons crafted by the Rainbow Sage to be used by humans in order to end the war between the First Dragons. Alongside Brynhildr, the Raijinto, and the Fujin Yumi, it is necessary in order to unlock the full power of the Yato. After the war, the blade was passed down through the Nohrian royal family. Its current known wielder is Xander, the crown prince of Nohr.
During the Heirs of Fate Xenologues, Siegbert inherits the sword and uses it as his main weapon.

Etymology
Siegfried is a German-given name, composed of the Germanic elements sig, meaning "victory", and frithu, meaning "protection and peace". It is also the name of a German legendary hero featured in the poem Nibelungenlied, who most famously appeared in the operatic cycle The Ring of the Nibelung composed by Wagner. A Valkyrie who is the queen of Iceland in that poem, Brynhildr (Brünnhilde) is the namesake of Leo's legendary tome, further adding to the allusion.
The name Siegfried belongs to a figure of Norse mythology whose parents have also had two legendary weapons named after them in the Fire Emblem series, Siegmund and Sieglinde.
Trivia
- Siegfried's size and height vary between promotional materials and in-game cutscenes. In promotional materials such as Xander's official artwork, the sword only goes up roughly to his waist. In-game movie cutscenes and the weapon's internal gameplay model, conversely, depict Siegfried as significantly greater in width and height, being depicted to be a massive blade, both in terms of width and height.
- One of Garon's Fire Emblem Cipher cards depicts him in his youth wielding Siegfried. It is never mentioned in Fates if he was the wielder of the blade prior to Xander.
- In Fire Emblem Heroes, Siegfried has the Distant Counter skill built into it, referencing the 1-2 range it had in Fates. Unlike in Fates however, Siegfried cannot be used to attack at 2 range on player phase
