Sorcerer is the promoted class of a Dark Mage. It has a similar appearance to the Druid class in later titles. The difference lies in the fact that, as there are no restrictions on magic types in Shadow Dragon, a Sorcerer can use any spell (with the proper weapon level and no special conditions), while Druids in other games can usually only use Dark magic. In Shadow Dragon, it is stated that a Sorcerer uses dark tomes, however, they simply use ordinary magic.

Sorcerer are generally considered slower, but more powerful than Sages, however this is not true. Sages have 1 more base Magic than Sorcerers, while Sorcerers have 1 more base Defence and Resistance, making them weaker, yet more durable than sages. They are also capable of using staves, which makes them a useful class.
