The Spy's Shuriken (巧者の手裏剣 Kōsha no Shuriken, lit. Skilled Shuriken) is a Shuriken that is introduced in Fire Emblem Fates. Like its Japanese name suggests, the Spy's Shuriken is a weapon that reflects the expertise of a true master of the art of handling Shuriken, imbued with the hefty ability to reduce all the key stats of enemy units (except HP) post-battle. The Spy's Shuriken also raises its wielder's Speed by 2, but is incapable of performing double attacks, has very poor might, and cannot attack from a range of 1-2. The shuriken is very similar in appearance and function to the Spy`s Yumi, in that it has 3 range.
The shuriken (手裏剣) was a common throwing weapon for ninja, and its name can mean "sword hidden in the hand", or "the sword inside of hand". These were flattened, bladed discs that were thrown at enemies.
Ironically, shurikens mostly look like small discs with flat spikes protruding out the sides, so that it could slice while being thrown and spinning. The spy's shuriken seen in Fire Emblem Fates looks much more like a sai (釵), a close combat ninja weapon that originated in Okinawa.
- Furthermore, sai had short handles and three prongs like a trident, while actual shurikens usually flattened metal discs with sharp, bladed edges.
- Ironically, the spy's shuriken only has two prongs.
