Stone (weapon type)

Stone (石 Ishi) is a weapon type in the Fire Emblem series. Stones (as in Dragonstones) were originally exclusive to Manaketes, but have been expanded to Taguels as of Fire Emblem: Awakening. Prior to Awakening, stones were variably treated as either weapons or items (especially in Monsho no Nazo). However, in Awakening, they are given their own actual weapon type and weapon type icon in addition to their weapon-like stats from prior games.

Stones transform the user into their animal forms during an attack and then revert back to their human forms after the attack concludes. Stones have a fixed amount of uses before they break, much like ordinary weapons. In all games, Stones do not have weapon ranks, most likely due to the low availability of them, their infinite uses, or the small number of different stone types in each game.

Stones alters the stats of the unit when they attack and defend. Generally, a stone's damage is calculated by the user's strength and the enemy's defense. Mage Dragon units deal magical damage, though. On top of Manakete and Taguel units high growth rates, stones enhance their natural stats for battle.

Laguz, animal-human characters from the Tellius Series, similar to Manaketes and Taguels, do not use stones to shift forms. Instead they use a Transformation gauge to maintain their animal forms. However, they do have Laguz Stones and Laguz Gems to fill or maintain their transform gauge, but these are not the same as normal Stone weapons.

In Fire Emblem: Fates, they now have weapon levels.
