Sumeragi (スメラギ) is a character from Fire Emblem Fates. He is voiced by Taketora in the Japanese version.

Profile

Sumeragi is the deceased king of Hoshido. He is father of Ryoma, Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura through his first wife Ikona, and the stepfather of the Avatar by marrying Mikoto.

Prior to the events of Fates, Garon called Sumeragi to Cheve to discuss negotiation terms due to the war between Hoshido and Nohr. Sumeragi took the Avatar with them, believing that Garon was willing to end the war. When he arrived, Garon revealed to him that it was a trap and ordered his soldiers to attack them. Sumeragi sacrificed himself so that the Avatar would be protected from the barrage of arrows. Sometime after his death, Anankos revived him as his puppet.

Personality

According to Fuga, he was a prankster as a child and a huge brawler as a teenager/young adult, only growing into his reasonable authority figure around the time he married his first wife. All in all, he truly cares for his children, attempting to prevent the young Avatar's death at the cost of his life. When he's defeated in Revelation and comes back to normal he compliments their strength and says that he believes they can beat Anankos.

Like Garon, he was apparently quite amorous, but in different ways, hanging out in the Hoshidan Red Light Districts as a prince (according to the original JPN version) and falling in love with Mikoto at first sight.

All Routes

In Chapter 5, Sumeragi appears as a hooded man, drawing the Avatar's Ganglari to him in an attempt to kill the Avatar. He explodes the sword at the town square, destroying most of the surrounding area and killing the people at the square. Despite this, the Avatar still survives. In response, Sumeragi uses the sword to throw shards of metal at them, but Mikoto sacrifices her life to protect them. Ryoma challenges the Hooded Man after knowing he is the suspect, but is forced to retreat. Sumeragi calls his soldiers in an attempt to kill them one last time, but is unable to withstand the power of an enraged Avatar, disappearing after his defeat.

Revelation

Sumeragi reappears in Chapter 25. Initially hooded, he reveals his true identity before the Avatar, Azura, Gunter, and Ryoma. After being defeated, he speaks with his family before fading away.

Invisible History

Sumeragi serves as the boss of the first part, where it's revealed he has been leading Valla troops to hunt down and kill the heart of Anankos. He is defeated by Odin, Lazlow, and Selena forcing him to retreat.

Trivia

  • According to Hinoka's supports with the Avatar, Mikoto showed up one day with "a newborn baby"—the Avatar—and married Sumeragi. Problem is, Takumi and Sakura are younger than the Avatar—they couldn't have been born yet, meaning their real mother, Queen Ikona, was still alive at the time. It's very easily explained by how up until the Meiji era, noblemen were able to have an official wife *and* concubines at the same time, and being a concubine for The Emperor or the shogun was considered a huge honor for noblewomen. If such things apply to Hoshido as well, then Mikoto probably was Sumeragi's concubine and maybe one of his advisers first, officially married him after Ikona's death
