The Kingless Castle is the twentieth chapter of Fire Emblem Engage.

Story[]

Inside Elusia Castle, Zephia and Griss chastise Mauvier and Marni for losing two of their Emblem Rings. Zephia and Marni argue about who is at most fault, and the former slaps the latter. Mauvier steps in and demands to take punishment in Marni's place, which Zephia responds to by revealing that she has already cast her mental spell on Veyle. She then punishes Marni and Mauvier by incapacitating them with fire magic. Griss ensures Zephia that he will identify if Alear is truly Sombron's child.

Outside the castle, Alear, Ivy, and the others arrive at its gate. Alear worries that they will fight Veyle within, and instructs their army to be ready to retreat at the first sign of danger—words they remember as Marth's. Alfred assures Alear that they will not make the same mistake they made at Destinea Cathedral, and the army pushes inside. They find the castle unusually empty, and encounter Griss blocking their path. He taunts them with Emblem Celica, and Alear takes his bluff, beginning to fight against his army.

After defeating Griss, Alear regains the Ring of the Caring Princess, then summons Celica with an invocation. Griss breaks out into deranged laughter and declares Alear as a child of not the Divine Dragon, but the Fell Dragon. He explains that he learned this by watching Alear summon an Emblem, and that Divine Dragons summon through prayer, while Fell Dragons summon through invocations. He then taunts Alear, tells them that Sombron and Veyle have already left, and evacuates the castle himself. While Alear is distraught by this revelation, Alfred and Ivy attempt to assuage their worries, while Diamant and Timerra investigate the castle.

After the two find it truly deserted, Alear tells their army about their dream before the night Lumera died, and concludes that it was in fact a memory. Alear asks Sigurd about the dream, who confirms that Alear is indeed a Fell Dragon. He explains that Lumera asked him to keep it a secret, and that she had taken Alear in after they had been abandoned by Sombron. Alear apologizes to their army and declares their intention to leave, claiming that they stand no chance against Sombron without true Divine Dragon powers. Sigurd then urges them to remember the Dark Emblems, and tells them that Emblems summoned by a Fell Dragon's power cannot speak, while ones summoned by a Divine Dragon maintain their speech and free will. He concludes that, as Alear's Emblems were able to speak, that Alear used both invocation and Divine Dragon prayer to summon them—proof that Alear is a Divine Dragon. Alear regains their will to continue to lead, while Alfred, Diamant, Timerra, Ivy, and Sigurd reiterate their faith in them.

Some time later, Mauvier approaches Alear and urges them to help Veyle, having overheard their conversation. He then informs them that she is traveling with Sombron to Lythos. Alear agrees to travel with him there.

Be sure to take some Torches and Illume staves along with pure water. Griss will play hide and seek and appear on either the right or left side of the starting area. Try to swarm him when you find him and take down his first revival stone. After which he'll stay up top. After you make him stay put head up and take out the thieves before going to the chests. Be sure to light up the braziers on the way there and then surround and finish off Griss before he can unleash his power on the group.
