“Who knew we'd leave as students and return at the head of the Imperial army?”
Dorothea

The Struggle Commences is the first chapter of the Scarlet Blaze route of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, and fourth overall. The player will be introduced to the base camp and some of its basic functions, and can send their army into battle via the War Map by taking on side quests while moving toward the chapter's main objective.

Story[]

Two years have passed following the routing of Lord Arundel and Duke Aegir in the previous chapter. In the time since, Edelgard has been established as the Adrestian Emperor, enacting sweeping structural reforms and devoting resources to improving its military and strengthening the Southern Church. As the chapter opens, Edelgard declares war on the Church of Seiros, declaring it to be corrupt and oppressive.

Edelgard's first mission as leader of the Imperial army is to capture Garreg Mach Monastery and drive out Rhea and her followers.

Following the Imperial army's conquest of Garreg Mach, Rhea, Seteth, and Flayn plan to retreat to the custody of Faerghus, hoping one day to reclaim the monastery for themselves.

The news of the battle quickly spreads to Derdriu, where Claude and Judith are surprised that the Empire was able to take the monastery so quickly, and they blame Count Gloucester and Acheron for failing to contain them.

Meanwhile, in Fhirdiad, Dimitri prepares to receive Rhea and her retinue, knowing that the Empire will come after them. They also learn that Count Rowe has defected from the Kingdom to join with the Empire, and Lonato plans to send his own army after Rhea to get revenge on her for executing his son Christophe.

Recruitment[]

Manuela and Jeritza automatically join your army upon starting the chapter while Ferdinand, Bernadetta, Caspar and Linhardt rejoin you following their unavailability in the previous chapter.

Constance and Hapi can be recruited during the main quest "The Battle of Garreg Mach" by using the "Persuade Constance" and "Persuade Hapi" strategies (cost 10 Strategic Resource points each), then defeating them.

If the player is on a New Game+ save with both Azure Gleam and Golden Wildfire clear data, the Gatekeeper also joins the army as a playable unit upon starting the chapter.

Trivia[]

  • The game's demo ends just before the main quest can be attempted, encouraging the player to buy the full game.
  • Chapter 4 is the only time your army's lord explains the objective for the chapter. In future chapters, the map will show the main and side quest areas without narration.
  • Cyril will not appear on the middle level of the monastery if all of the strongholds are seized quickly.
  • Seteth, Flayn, Rhea, Catherine, and others talk about going to Ailell to catch up with Faerghus, referencing the events leading into chapter 4 of Azure Gleam. At the same time, the events of Leicester unfold in chapter 4 of Golden Wildfire.
