Thyrsus is a Staff that debuted in Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE.

Overview[]

In Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, being able to craft the staff via Carnage Unity requires Kiria Kurono & Tharja to be a Sorcerer to unlock the ability to form the staff with the required Performa that are needed.

In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Thyrsus is one of the twelve Heroes' Relics, associated with the Crest of Gloucester. The staff provides +2 range to magic attacks, and grants the effects of Pavise and Aegis if the holder possesses the correct Crest.

In Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, this accessory will grant the user +3 Magic (+6 upon being unleashed), as well as Aegis and Pavise if used by a unit with the correct Crest. When unleashed, Thyrsus gains the ability Far-Reaching Magic, a trait that increases the range of long-range spells. As the Hero Relic is an accessory, one cannot use a Dragon Sign and Thyrsus simultaneously.

Etymology[]

A Thyrsus, or thyrsos (Ancient Greek: θύρσος), was a wand or staff of giant fennel (Ferula communis) covered with ivy vines and leaves, sometimes wound with taeniae and topped with a pine cone or by a bunch of vine-leaves and grapes or ivy-leaves and berries. The thyrsus, associated with Dionysus (or Bacchus) and his followers, the Satyrs and Maenads (or Bacchants), is a symbol of prosperity, fertility, hedonism, and pleasure/enjoyment in general.

Trivia[]

  • Excluding the Sword of the Creator and Blutgang, Thyrsus is the only Hero's Relic that is never wielded by an unrecruited student after the time-skip. This is likely because its heir cannot use magic when they are encountered as an enemy, thus not having a use for it.
  • During the cinematic "The Wyvern and the Lion", depicting Claude's fight against Dimitri in the main mission of Two Kings, which sees Lorenz and Hilda joining forces to help Claude, Thyrsus is about as long as a traditional lance.
