Trainee is a classification of certain Classes throughout the Fire Emblem series.

Overview[]

The Trainee class are a series of classes in various Fire Emblem games denoting a relatively inexperienced combat character. In most games, they are either an average Villager who is suddenly thrust into war and join the main protagonists causes. Other times, they are young recruit units who are at the very beginning of their formal combat training.

Nonetheless, a Trainee class is usually denoted as a starting class with low long-term potential in order to encourage the player to promote the character as soon as possible. Fans of the franchise usually consider the Trainee classification as lower than the average first tier class such as the Cavalier or Mage classes since most Trainee classes promote into them.

The Trainee class is often associated with the Kliff Archetype. Such units begin with horrible starting stats, but overcome things thanks to spectacular growth rates, denoting a hidden potential that emerges over the course of the war. This often leads to some of the statistically strongest units in the player's hands if they devote resources to fostering their growths.
