Vantage is a recurring skill in the Fire Emblem franchise that was first introduced in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It allows the user to initiate an attack first when an enemy engaging them in battle would have normally attacked first.

Overview[]

This skill is first introduced in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, in which the user will always attack first if the user has less than 50% HP left.

This skill is later integrated into the more advanced skill systems of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, where its effect is made more noticeable. However, in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Vantage becomes dependent on the user's Speed stat, meaning it will not be as consistent in terms of activation.

In Fire Emblem: Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates, Vantage returns back to functioning how it did in the Judgral series in terms of automatically activating when the user's HP is below 50%. In Awakening's Lunatic Mode+, an enemy exclusive skill of Vantage appears on enemies.

This skill is known as Gale (烈風の技 Reppū no waza) in TearRing Saga: Utna Heroes Saga.

Vantage is an extremely useful skill for units to carry, as when activated, the user can follow up with other skills which can make them relatively dangerous to defeat if they fall below half health and have powerful skills such as Lethality on them.

In Fire Emblem Heroes it can be learned without inheriting by: Anna, Gaius (Summer), Gordin, Lon'qu, Mia, Ishtar, Reinhardt, Rutger, Altina, Travant, and Laevatein (Ninja), amongst others.

In Fire Emblem Engage, Vantage is a Sync Skill unique to Emblem Leif. A unit can inherit the skill for use permanently if they develop their bond levels with Leif and then spend SP to acquire it. There are three tiers of Vantage, with the lowest tier activating when the user has 25% or less HP remaining, and the highest activating at 75%.
