“By the honorable name of Caelin, we will never fail! You’ll taste the power of our knights, like cold steel in your mouth!”
— Wallace

Wallace (ワレス, Waresu, Wallece in the Japanese version) is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken. He first appears in Chapter 9 as a level 12 Knight. He was the Knight Commander of House Caelin until Lundgren made his mad bid for power. The tutorial demands that you use a Knight Crest on him; however, if you are playing Lyn's Hard Mode, you do not have to use it. However, Kent and Sain, the only other possible candidates for it in the prologue, are usually at a low level at that point so many people use it on him anyway. (Saving it, however, makes it possible to 5-star your Funds rank while using both the Angelic Robe and Energy Ring.)

Loyal to Lady Lyn, Wallace is a veteran who served 30 years as a knight. A famous trainer of young knights, he trained Kent and Sain and seems to have the same intentions for Wil. He apparently wrote a "Manual of Knightly Prowess" which he forces upon new recruits to aid them in their training. When younger, he was also Hassar's rival and friend, which is expanded in his supports with Kent. It's insinuated that Renault, during his times as a mercenary, trained Wallace briefly. He has no sense of direction whatsoever. He thrives in battle and is extremely brash and stubborn.

He ends up in Ilia and spends the rest of his days tilling the frozen soil.

Profile

As a new squire to Caelin, he apparently was thin and weak. The other boys teased him, calling him a girl. He had a teacher by the name of Renault, implied to be the same man as Bishop Renault, who trained him. He grew strong and continued to serve Caelin, rising through the ranks.

During a support conversation with Kent, it's revealed that several years ago, Lord Hausen assigned him to prevent Madelyn and Hassar from escaping to the Sacae plains. A couple days after assigned to this job, Wallace catches up with Madelyn and Hassar. When Wallace caught them, both Madelyn and Hassar said "I am to blame, do not harm the other".

After the meeting, Wallace lets the pair go and reports back to Lord Hausen. When Marquess Caelin found out the Wallace had let them escape ("They eluded me", is what Wallace said to Lord Hausen after the pair's escape), he locks Wallace in the dungeon for 6 months. Wallace does not regret it, though, as not only this allowed for Lyn to be ultimately born, but it showed him that disobeying orders is not necessarily bad when they conflict with one's sincere beliefs and are against what ultimately will be in the good of the lord ordering them.

Continuing his service to Caelin, he was the commander of the knights of Caelin. He later trained young knights, including Kent and Sain. Eventually, he retired and became a farmer. However, when Lundgren rose to power, he ordered Wallace to capture the "impostor" granddaughter and two "disloyal" knights. Upon finding Lyn, he decides to believe her claim based on the look in her eyes. He then joins her and helps her on her journey to defeat Lundgren. After the battle, he searches on for combat, his battle lust renewed.

In Eliwood's story, he reappears in Bern during Lloyd's version of Four-Fanged Offense, where he can be re-recruited. His lack of a sense of direction serves as the apparent reason for his presence in Bern, though it is revealed in an A support with Lyndis he had traveled there to destroy the hideout of the Taliver Bandits that had killed Lyndis' family.

After the battle against Nergal, he winds up farming in Ilia.

Personality

Wallace is competitive and battle loving. He seeks out fighting and holds utmost confidence in his skills. He is proud of both his abilities and country to the extent that he seems arrogant. He was a rival to both Hassar and Vaida, and unwilling to yield to the idea that they might be his superior in battle.

Yet, Wallace is also warmhearted and loyal. He believes he knows best for people, keeping their best interests at heart, as shown by his obliteration of the Taliver Bandits to prevent Lyn from being twisted by hatred and desire for revenge. However, he can be quite forceful about seeing that what he believes should happen to help someone does, as shown by his forced training of Wil. He appears to be appreciative of those who help him, as shown by his gratitude towards Renault. He also values honor, chivalry, and duty, always placing his lord over himself when he believes it to be in their best interests. He also trusts his instincts, as shown by his choice to believe Lyn based on her eyes.

Overview

Wallace is essentially the Gotoh of Lyn's tale, he comes late and if promoted immediately (mandatory in normal mode) is powerful enough to defeat any foe in the chapters he appears in, thus allowing a player who lost a number of units to win more easily; new and inexperienced players often resort to training him in axes so he can use the hammer to kill Lundgren easily in the final chapter of Lyn's Tale.

However, if chosen not to promote in Hard mode, he can fight up to level 20 and then earn his promotion. His growths are somewhat similar to Oswin, but he has higher strength, skill, and resistance growth (although Oswin still has more potential due to his lower joining level and generally similar starting stats). Though he may need an Angelic Robe to catch up, he can possibly rival the other potential general.

(End of chapter)

Kent: General Wallace!
Sain: General Wallace... Why did you have to push yourself so hard? Oh... We will not forget you...
Wallace: Quiet, boy! I'm not dead yet!
Sain: Ah! It's alive! I mean... He's... You're OK!
Wallace: Of course I am! This is nothing more than a scratch! Nggg!! Oww!!!
Sain: Easy... You shouldn't move around so much.
Kent: I assure you, Lord Wallace, we will see Lady Lyndis safely to the marquess. Have faith in us, and focus on mending your wounds.
Wallace: Bah... So, now I'm to be sent home like a squire...
Sain: You've been in retirement, sir. You simply tried too--
Wallace: Hold your tongue, boy! I know my place. Kent! Sain! Take care of the lady Lyndis! Or else!
Sain & Kent: Yes, milord!

Against Eagler

Wallace: Eagler!
Eagler: General Wallace... So you've sided with the girl, too, have you?
Wallace: I fight for Caelin's honor, not for Lundgren's lies!
Eagler: Ah... Is that so? You are—Enough! There's nothing more to be said. I name you traitors all! Come! Do your worst!
Wallace: Fool... At the very least, let mine be the blow that finishes you!
