The weapon triangle is a tactical fighting system that has been a mainstay of the Fire Emblem series since its fourth iteration.

In this system, sword wielders have a better hit chance against axe-type weapons, axes have a better hit chance against lances, and lances are more liable to hit swords. In Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones, there are weapons that reverse the weapon triangle. For example, an "Axereaver" functions as a lance, but its functionality reverses to be effective against axes while being weak against swords. The bow is neutral in the weapon triangle, as are all types of magic, themselves having a separate 'triangle', the Trinity of Magic.
