Yukimura (ユキムラ) is a playable character in Fire Emblem Fates and an ally in the Birthright route. He is voiced by Hidemitsu Shimizu in the Japanese version and by Paul Eiding in the English version.

Profile

Hoshido's tactician, and a subordinate of Mikoto.

His supports with the male Avatar show that he does his role of being the army's tactician, and tells them about his past with his father and Sumeragi. He also mentions how he has grown wiser as he got older, as he presented a tactic to Sumeragi that would bring victory at the cost of a large amount of soldiers, which Sumeragi declined and said that killing must be considerate, which he did not understand at the time. He also resented them early on, but eventually realized what Sumeragi had done to protect his own child.

His supports with the female Avatar is not about tactics but about their childhood instead. Since Sumeragi and Mikoto were royals with many duties to accomplish, he had very few memories of them, but still answered their questions regardless. He also made them a moving-picture box of their childhood, under the orders of their parents due to being busy. When they were kidnapped by Nohr, he hid the box under Mikoto's orders. The Avatar is happy with the picture box, as when they look in it they find nostalgic memories before being kidnapped by Nohr.

According to Shura, it was Yukimura who came up with the plan to kidnap Azura.

Birthright

Yukimura makes his first appearance in Chapter 5, where he greets the Avatar at the palace.

Later on during the war between Nohr and Hoshido, Yukimura was responsible for defending the capital from the onslaught of Nohr's attacks. During Chapter 21, he sent a letter to update the Hoshidan royal family about their current situation, although it took weeks for his letter to arrive to them.

If the player upgrades any of the Automaton Puppets to level 3 (requiring completion of Chapter 22), after players complete a battle and return to their castle, Yukimura will appear. Stating that he has left the capital and palace defended with automatons, he joins the player's army after seeing how strong they have become.

After Garon is defeated and a peace treaty is signed between the two nations, Yukimura crowns Ryoma as the new king of Hoshido.

Conquest

Yukimura, Sakura, her subordinates and a group of Hoshidan soldiers oppose the Avatar and their Nohrian allies when they appear in Hoshido. If the Avatar battles Yukimura, he will be disappointed in them, asking them why they would betray their own homeland. After the battle, Yukimura and Sakura end up being prisoners of war under Xander's orders. It is unknown what happens to him afterwards, but it is presumed that he lived since Sakura is seen with Hinoka at the end of Conquest.

Revelation

After the Avatar's "betrayal" Yukimura is stationed at Fort Jinya where the Avatar and their crew returned from Valla in hopes of getting help from Hoshido first to stop the impending attack from Valla. Believing that the Avatar is a traitor, Yukimura summons the fort's garrison to capture the Avatar. However, after a long battle, Yukimura is defeated. Confused as to why the Avatar did not kill him, the Avatar tries to explain the situation, but they are unable to because of the Valla curse. After Saizo attempts to blow himself up to take out the Avatar, Kaze and Sakura step in to stop him. Knowing the inherent kindness of the Avatar, they believe them and choose to follow them. Yukimura protests her decision, but backs down once he sees how serious she is, allowing the Avatar and their company to leave the fort unopposed.

"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"

Personality

As the tactician of Hoshido's forces, Yukimura always tries his best to think of the best strategies against their opponents. When he was young, he often read books by his father, who served as Sumeragi's tactician. When he came to serve him, Sumeragi noted his talent for excellent strategies, but told him that while they were effective, he needed to be more compassionate with the enemy, something which he did not understand until later on. He also resented the Avatar during this time, but after Sumeragi sacrificed himself to save the Avatar, changed his views about them.

Along with being Hoshido's tactican, Yukimura also enjoys designing and crafting new devices for everyday life. His supports with the female Avatar show that he built a moving-picture box of their childhood under Mikoto's orders. Occasionally when he is invited into the player's room, he asks the Avatar to give feedback on his new devices. He cares deeply for Mikoto, as if the Avatar battles him during Chapter 22 of Conquest, he says that Mikoto would be devastated if she saw her own child destroy their homeland.

He breaks the most glasses out of everyone in the army. His birthday is April 28.

Overall

Yukimura starts off as a decent unit by the time he is recruitable. He already starts off as a Mechanist. Unfortunately, his base class is Apothecary and not Ninja so he is unable to take advantage of skills like Poison Strike and Shurikenfaire to help him. From the Apothecary class, he can learn Potent Potion and Quick Salve. These two skills compliment each other as he will benefit from enhanced effects and be able to move again after using potions. From the Merchant class, Profiteer and Spendthrift also compliment each other to increase his offense and defense without the risk that Life and Death has.

Yukimura has two tertiary classes; Samurai and Monk. From the Samurai class, Yukimura can learn Duelist's Blow to increase his chances of dodging an attack when he initiates the battle. Vantage allows him to attack enemy units first if his health falls below half. From the Monk class, he can learn Miracle which can help him avoid being killed if he has more than 1 health remaining and Rally Luck, although the latter is not as useful.

From the Samurai class, its promotions are the Swordmaster and Master of Arms classes. From the Swordmaster class, Yukimura can learn Astra and Swordfaire. Astra can allow Yukimura to stack up attacks rapidly (and fill up the guard stance gauge if possible), which can help with high damage weapons. He can also learn Swordfaire, but it is useful only if the player decides to keep Yukimura in a sword-using class. The Master of Arms class provides Seal Strength to reduce an enemy's physical attack value which can be helpful against high strength units. Life and Death offers some offense bonuses but must be well protected or enemies can severely wound or kill him.

From the Monk class, its promotions are the Onmyoji and Great Master class. The Sage class does not provide any help for him as Rally Magic can be used by other characters and Tomefaire only works if he is using tomes, which does not work out with his magic stat. From the Great Master class, he can learn Renewal and Countermagic. Renewal increases his tanking potential if he survives an onslaught of attacks, which Miracle can allow him to do. Countermagic will intimidate magic users to help patch up his resistance.
